The Mechanical Assist SDS system is designed to accommodate any of spacesupply’s shelving products as well as integration with third party shelving. SDS Carriages are also available with heavy gauge steel carriage covers for open, large object storage.
spacesupply Mechanical Assist carriages flexible design allows for complete modularity. Systems have the ability to be relocated, reconfigured or expanded to adapt to changing storage needs. All carriage components are completely reusable. In addition, spacesupply’s SDS Mechanical Assist system can be fully upgraded to our SDSe Electrical system by converting mechanical components to electrical. spacesupply’s SDS carriages share common tracks and can be installed/relocated onto any of our 5 unique track and decking options without requiring any carriage modifications.
Lockable configurations are available to meet virtually any security criteria. spacesupply’s locking systems are compliant HIPAA and PIPPEDA.

Stationary shelving units adjacent to the mobile system are mounted on stationary platforms of the same construction and height as carriages for a complete homogenous system. Stationary bases are attached to the track and completely anti-tip. Included as a standard feature to all SDS systems unless otherwise stated.
spacesupply SDS carriages are fully finished with no visible holes or fasteners. All metal components are finished with powder coat paint, providing a durable hard surface with superior performance qualities. Powder coating provides excellent abrasion, impact, corrosion, stain, and chemical resistance, exceeding stringent scruff, scratch and chip requirements of the American Library Association. Powder coat paint also emits negligible VOCs (volatile organic compounds) for a cleaner, healthier indoor environment. Paint is available in any of our 12 standard colors, our eco-friendly paint option and custom.
Anti-tip is a standard feature on all spacesupply systems. All spacesupply carriages, both mobile and stationary, have an integrated and adjustable anti-tipping mechanism. Anti-tip mechanisms are located at every track interval and comply with all seismic requirements.

spacesupply has a diverse selection of end panels that can be integrated onto any of our systems. High pressure wood laminates are available in any of our 23 standard finishes as well as custom. Other options include our unique metal pegboards, dry erase boards, glass, acrylic and custom.
spacesupply Mechanical Assist SDS systems are capable of being equipped with foot level safety sweeps along the base on both sides of mobile carriages. Safety sweeps provide protection for people or obstacles located in a mobile aisle by automatically stopping carriage movement when engaged. A pressure sensitive hinged panel extends the full length of the carriage and automatically seizes carriage movement upon contact with obstacles. Safety sweeps automatically reset by reversing the direction of the carriage and removing the obstacle for simple and efficient operation.
spacesupply Mechanical Assist SDS carriages are available with a fully-synchronized drive system to transmit power to both sides of the carriage, direct driving all carriage wheels. Fully-synchronized drive systems contribute to enhanced system stability and performance.
Anti-microbial powder coat option is available to protect against the growth and migration of micro-organisms including bacteria and fungi. Anti-microbial powder coat is ideal for hospitals, food service and packaging areas, pharmaceutical labs, childcare facilities and anywhere else requiring highly sterile surfaces. Sterilcoat AM Antimicrobial powder coat is formulated to significantly reduce microbial activity and provide protection over an extended period of time and frequent washings. Anti-microbial power coat is available in our full range of powder paint colors as well as custom.
Custom engineered carriages are available for unique applications requiring specific criteria. Rustproof galvanized steel carriages and components are available for wet/damp environments.

The welding process joins material at the atomic level for the strongest possible connection, ensuring the maximum rigidity with absolutely no play or looseness over the entire assembly.
spacesupply utilizes a common straight line solid steel drive shaft that runs along the entire length of the carriage. Solid steel construction delivers a significantly higher torque limit and product life-span than traditional hollow shafts. Drive shafts direct drive all wheels on one side of the carriage simultaneously to prevent carriage whipping, binding and wheel/rail wear.

The unique manufacturing process achieves superior metallurgic and mechanical properties and offers the highest degree of structural integrity when compared to any other metalworking process. Tapered edges of the wheel mesh perfectly with our hexagonal track to achieve maximum tracking ability and evenly dispersed loading, maintaining precise carriage alignment and preventing derailment.

spacesupply’s Mechanical Assist SDS systems utilize precision self-aligning ball-bearings to ensure perfect shaft alignment. Two bearings are provided per wheel to allow for increased load capacity. Bearings are fabricated with the inner ring and ball assembly contained within an outer ring that has a spherical raceway. This construction allows the bearing to tolerate angular misalignment to ensure a perfect fit and shaft alignment. Bearings are permanently sealed and lubricated to ensure smooth long-lasting operation.
spacesupply’s uniquely engineered wheel housings are constructed from a welded, single piece 11 gauge steel inverted U-channel. This design delivers an incredibly strong framework for the wheels, axles and bearings, resulting in maximum carriage strength, rigidity and durability.
spacesupply’s solid steel drive shafts are connected through positive D-shaped interlocking shaft ends secured with tubular couplings, ensuring that there is absolutely no play or looseness over the entire length of the assembly.
